| Orientation - Nu-Oriental | | |
|
Orientations groundbreaking Nu-Oriental Sound, "an explosive and brilliant blend of Orient and Occident." (Morgenpost) bestow them Soundtracks for the movies "Head On" "Kebab Connection" or "Süperseks" and brought them on tour with Turkish pop icon Tarkan or RnBesk shooting star Muhabbet. They enjoy downright cult status in turkey.

Orientation - Nu-Oriental
|
Orientation merges Soul and modern Club Grooves with longingly arabesque melodies, funky Sounds with dense Arabic Percussion. Traditional seeming Balkan melodies in an urban-electronic framework: An entirely new compound, worthy of the label "Nu-Oriental".
Over the years Orientation established a good reputation in Europe. They were on tour with Turkish pop music star Tarkan, represented Germany at the EXPO 2000 (live stream in German public television ZDF) or played at the Festival "Berlin - Hong Kong" in Hong Kong. Orientation was a steppingstone for various singer and MCs like Aziza-A, Sultana or Ayaz Kapli.
In Turkey their groundbreaking first record "Bosporus Bridge" became something like a cult. Fatih Akin used some of the tracks for his movie "Head On" and for his new documentary about the music scene in Istanbul. For other feature films like "Kebab Connection" and "Süperseks" they contributed their music as well.
Orientation continues with the album "9 in Istanbul, 8 in Berlin" a tradition that they established with their first record: beautiful catchy melodies, longingly melancholic singing and lyrics, modern beats, arrangements and sound-design, and last not least: dance music. Bekir states: "We believe that musical Genres blend into each other and stereotyped thinking is not adequate in these times. With our music we want to address to all people."
Orientation currently is engaged with Muhabbet, the uprising German/Turkish artist who sings in German but with an Arabesque twinge to it. Germany best selling weekly magazine Der Spiegel notes: "…a groovy Band named Orientation who impresses and delights the audience with exotic instruments like the kanun…".
Orientation & Berlin-Antakya Duet (combined or optional)
Berlin-Antakya Duet is the immediate and intuitive Duo of Bekir and Advocado that reflects their feelings about live without any subsequent editing. They wanted to be purely honest and sincere, about themselves, their souls, their music. The result is an essential still life of Bekir and Advocado. They are moving, from violin to ney, from ney to piano, from piano to voice. The music sometimes sounds sad and desperate, sometimes wild and free, sometimes relaxed and contemplative. It is what it is: spontaneous, unique, unplugged and unrepeatable.
Influences
Berlin - Neukölln, Sonnenallee. This neighborhood is purely Arab. Prussian Architecture, plain, tall and and rigorous. If you look above the world is a square and in order. On the ground the cultures are melting into a not very homogeneous mix. Men are sitting in worn out chairs, smoking their water pipes, French Fries stands with arabian names, street vendors, video stores with the newest blockbuster from Beirut, shining black Mercedes limousines, women in tight jeans and high heels or disguised in veils and floating dresses. Berlin - Neukölln, this is Bekir´s neighborhood. Composer, Singer, Musician and Producer
Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, Kastanienallee. Berlin´s Trash scene Fashion paradise. The names of the clubs say it all: "White Trash", "CCCP", "Cafe Moskau" and "Kaffee Burger". Lots of young folks, prominently not styled, of all nationalities and languages sipping their Latte Macchiato in trendy Coffe Shops such as, "Cafe103", "Schwarz-Sauer". Pure lifestyle. Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, Advocado´s neighborhood. Composer, Musician and Producer.
Orientation uses the big musical treasure chest Berlin has to offer. Berlin is the easternmost city Germanies and Western Europe, it was for so many years the sting in the flesh of the Soviet Empire. You can still feel it, "Charlottograd", Kreuzberg 36, Wedding, Neukölln, these hoods tell their stories about the past. Bekir´s heritage is the black see, his family roots come from the Eastern part of the multiethnic state Turkey. Advocado comes from the most German of all rivers, the Rhine area, the most western region of the multiethnic state Germany. Both, Bekir and Advocado, are affected by the whole range from Jazz, R&B, Soul, Funk to European and Ottoman classical music and German, Balkan and Turkish Folk, from Christian church songs to the Turkish wedding and gypsy dance music.
Berlin is a musical microcosm that pictures the world map of music in detail. Accordingly wide spread is the environment of the musicians. Besides their love towards music all these musicians have something else in common: they all live in Berlin.
Story
1997 Orientation released their groundbreaking album "Bosporus Bridge", which influences Musicians and Producers worldwide until today. Orientation broke into the German and European World Music Charts, toured Europe und Asia - together with Tarkan, Aziza-A and Sultana - and successfully worked as a producer's unit.
2003 the critically acclaimed film director Fatih Akin used Orientation as the Soundtrack for his awarded Movie "Head on " (Gegen die Wand). Currently Orientation is collaborating with Shooting-Star MUHABBET, live as well as in the Studio.
2006
With their new Album "9 in Istanbul, 8 in Berlin" Orientation wants to prove that good music is universal and works independent from ethnic, national and religious boundaries. The new album reflects the nearness towards another European melting pot, another crossculture between East and West: Istanbul: "9 in Istanbul, 8 in Berlin" points out that it is just one hour time difference to dip from Berlin to Istanbul (and vice versa), but also contains the immemorial and forever young Turkish wedding rhythm which is a 9/8-measure, commonly performed on wedding parties from the Balkan deep into the Asian continent. Orientation uses this 9/8 measure as a universal rhythm tool for Reggae and Funk.
Orientation is the musical proof that the Culture of the Occident does not contradict with the Culture of the Orient. Orientation closes the circle.
